New Restaurant Brings Brazilian Fire To Wellington

If You’re A Meat Lover, This Will Be The Place For You

Byline: Georgia Jacoviello

Good news for all meat lovers and carb counters out there. In August, the Fire of Brazil comes to the Mall at Wellington Green.

The new restaurant, with its meaty menu, will open in the space formerly occupied by Prezzo’s. Although Wellington and the western communities as a whole have no shortage of restaurants, this one is different — a nice change of pace with great food and an interesting concept in presentation.

Fire of Brazil, owned by the Gilbertson family of Georgia, is a churrascaria, a Brazilian restaurant specializing in barbecue, which simply put means meat, meat, and more meat — all the meat one can eat, as a matter of fact.

According to Marketing Director Mary Lou Rodgers, diners can feast on 15 different types of meat, which are brought to the table by gaucho-style waiters who present the meats on skewers. One can enjoy seasoned filet mignon, linguiça (pork sausage), alcatra (seasoned top sirloin), cordeiro (fresh young leg of lamb) juicy and sliced right off the bone at one’s table, or frango, a variety of cuts including chicken legs and breasts wrapped in bacon, to name a few, all slow-roasted on an open flame and seasoned to perfection.

What makes it even more of a culinary treat is the floor show one gets while dining. The gaucho waiters continually flow through the restaurant carrying choice cuts of grilled meats, pretty much at one’s beck and call. As a matter of fact, each diner gets a two-sided card, red on one side and green on the other. If one is in the mood for food, the card is left with the green side up. If one has had enough, the red side is turned up, and the observant gauchos will stop serving.

Non-meat lovers need not worry. Part of the fixed-price dining experience is a huge salad bar which on various nights will offer a variety including cold salads and olives, chilled shrimp, melon slices wrapped in prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, smoked salmon, and grilled eggplant, as well as hot vegetables and side dishes. There’s even a bloody mary bar. The meat entrees are also accompanied by dishes of beans, rice and fried bananas.

For dessert, one can try sinfully delicious items from Brazilian cheesecake to papaya cream. The dining experience can be rounded out with a glass of fine wine or an after-dinner drink.

The Wellington location is the Gilbertsons’ first foray out of their home state of Georgia, where the family owns two locations. Rodgers said plans are in the works to open restaurants in New Orleans, St. Louis, Kansas City and Nashville.

“We thought Wellington would be a great place to offer five-star dining in an exciting environment that caters to everyone from large parties to couples to families,” Rodgers said. “We make sure all our guests enjoy a great meal in a relaxed atmosphere and strive to ensure each and every diner’s comfort. We just are looking forward to meeting everyone and watching them enjoy the taste of the Fire of Brazil as much as we and all of our customers already do.”
