Brazilian eatery opens 2nd site
Move northward long planned

It didn't take the Gilbertson family long to latch on to the prime restaurant space at 5304 Windward Parkway.
The owners of the Fire of Brazil steakhouse in the Perimeter area had been eyeing the Northside for another location when the site became available. Within a few months they had moved out the fish tanks, erected a massive, central salad and hot bar and, last week, opened their second operation.
"We thought this was a good area for a place that offers five-star dining without all that goes with it," said R.J. Gilbertson, who lives in Roswell. "Here, we were able to keep some things, like the stacked stone pillars, and just add things like the salad bar and new paint."
The fish ponds and fountains at the front door remain, as do the bar, the patio and the sunroom. The lavish salad bar, stocked with gourmet goodies such as marinated asparagus spears, hearts of palm, chilled shrimp, melon slices wrapped in prosciutto, fresh mozzarella balls and thinly sliced smoked salmon, is the centerpiece of the dining room.
Bowls of greens, cold salads, olives and dressings share the space. Nearby is a hot line of vegetables and side dishes.
But the "churrascaria's" star attraction is meat, brought to your plate by gaucho servers who slice as much as you can eat. Gilbertson said many of the meat servers are in fact Brazilian.
Among the meats they proffer are filet mignon, beef ribs, rump steak flavored with garlic, top sirloin, beef ribs, leg of lamb, pork loin spiced with Parmesan, pork ribs, chicken breasts wrapped in bacon and pork sausages. A small green card next to your plate acts as subtle encouragement to the staff to keep it coming; turning it to the red side means you've reached your meat limit.
The meal is accompanied by dishes of beans, rice and fried bananas and priced at an opening special of $29.50, $10 less than the regular price.
Desserts and selections from the full bar are extra. The salad bar only is $19.50; children ages 5 to 12 are half price; and children younger than 5 are free.
Fire of Brazil is open for dinner from 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 4 p.m. on Sunday. Gilbertson expects to start lunch service this spring. For details, call 678-366-2411.
